Syphilis Test
Syphilis is a bacterial STI that can cause serious health concerns, if left untreated. Syphilis is spread by direct contact with a syphilis sore present usually on the penis, vagina or anus.
Symptoms – Early Stage
- Small, painless sore or ulcer typically on the penis, vagina or around the anus
- Swollen glands in your neck, groin or armpits
Symptoms – Later Stage
- Blotchy red rash that can appear anywhere on the body
- Small skin bumps (similar to warts)
- White patches in the mouth
- Flu-like symptoms (tiredness, fever, headaches)
Why Get Tested For Syphilis?
It is important to get tested for syphilis to avoid spreading the disease to your sexual partner. Left untreated, syphilis can pose life-threatening problems, known as ”tertiary syphilis”. At this stage, the infection can lead to stroke, meningitis, dementia symptoms, numbness and vision problems, among others.
